On February 14, 2026, 9:30 AM connect with birds and people around the globe during the Great Backyard Bird Count in Washington Square Park. This annual event encourages us to observe and count the number of birds in our yards and local parks. It’s a fantastic opportunity for bird enthusiasts of all ages to engage with nearby nature and to contribute to a meaningful community science project that helps track global bird populations.
This count will deepen your bird appreciation and is open to all skill levels–seasoned birdwatcher or birding newbie. You’ll have the chance to learn more about bird species, their behaviors, and the places they show up in the park. The data you collect during the count will help scientists understand how bird populations are changing in response to habitat loss and climate change.
