What is Green the Square?

Green the Square is an education and appreciation program for the trees in Washington Square Park with a goal of community advocacy for the restoration of the park’s canopy.

UPDATE (April 29, 2026)

We haven’t received any updates about a succession plan for the trees in the park since we provided the update below a few years ago, so we are restarting our fundraising campaign.

UPDATE: The NYC Parks Administrator for Washington Square Park is developing a tree succession plan for the park.
